Acne Blemish Control

Acne and pimple blemish control is very important for people suffering from acne. Acne is particularly a common problem for teenagers and, unfortunately, can get worse before it gets better. Teenagers who suffer from acne can struggle with low self-esteem and poor self-image. Many adults are also plagued with acne blemishes and while they may be able to emotionally handle the experience better than many teenagers, their self-image also suffers.

For many people, acne seems to appear out of nowhere. One day their skin is fine and the next, it is covered in red blemishes. Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed product for acne blemish control and what will work for one person, may not work for another. It is very important not to give up on finding a solution, however. There are many acne and pimple control options available and chances are, one of them will work for you. It does take time for treatments to work, however, so allow at least three months before tossing in the towel and looking for something else.

Acne can cause scarring on the face and it is important for acne blemish control to avoid touching the face or picking at acne sores. There are however, some very good over the counter products that improve the appearance of acne scarring and blemishes. To achieve the best results, it is important to seek out acne blemish control products that are right for your skin type as well as scar type. Exfoliating creams and ointments can work very well.

Topical products, available over the counter, that are effective in treating acne blemishes are salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, glycolic acid and azelaic acid. They are available in creams, lotions, gels, pads or soaps. However, these are chemical products and may cause side effects such as peeling, inflammation, stinging, burning, redness, and discoloration of the skin. It is wise to test a product on a small area of skin first to see if there is a reaction.

An acne blemish control product such as ‘Exposed Acne Treatment’ (see our Review of Exposed Acne Treatment here) is recommended because it softens the effect of its chemical ingredients by including natural products such as green tea, tea tree oil, olive leaf, licorice root and allantoin. This combination of herbal ingredients reduces swelling and promotes healing.

Antibiotics and other medications can also help acne blemishes by controlling the bacteria that causes acne. They can also reduce inflammation of the skin. Popular acne blemish control medications and antibiotics are erythromycin, sulfur, clindamycin and isotretinoin. As with topical pharmaceuticals, oral medications can cause side effects. These include upset stomach, dizziness, inflammations, skin discoloration and dry skin.

Given the risk of side effects, herbal medication is a viable, safe option for mild acne and has been found to be as effective as over the counter pharmaceutical products. For more severe acne, an acne blemish control product combining the strength of pharmaceutical ingredients with the balancing and healing properties of herbs is to be preferred. Drink plenty of pure water and a healthy balanced diet which is low in fat and sugar. Avoid packaged and fast foods as well as all white flour products. Give your body every chance to defeat this problem by acting in your own best interests.

Finally, chances are that "this too shall pass." This saying is a truism that can be very helpful to think on when those darn acne blemishes get you down. In the meantime, using good acne blemish control strategies will improve your chances of success.
